Participant FAQs

Who can apply for werkhouse 2019?

Design students in their 2nd year or above, recent graduates and young creatives that are self-taught or maybe found university was not for them. We are looking for young people from different design disciplines who would benefit from some extra industry experience.

What does it cost?

There is no fee for this workshop. You will need to organise and cover you own travel and accommodation expenses, and commit your time for the whole weekend.

What can I expect?

We’ll be based in a Bristol design studio for the entire workshop. You’ll be working in teams, each led by a Senior Designer. After introductions and welcome, Saturday will be about exploring the problem and generating ideas. Sunday will be about refining, visualising and presenting ideas.

What will I be designing?

This is not a test of your technical or executional skills in a specific design discipline. It is about creative thinking, design process, team working and exceeding client expectations – which are needed in all design studios.

What will be provided?

We will provide refreshments and a light lunch on both days. There will be WiFi, shared computers and plenty of pens and paper.

What do I need to bring?

Just bring yourself and your willingness to join-in, share ideas and ask questions. You are welcome to bring your own laptop and we would expect you to have a notebook anyway, but it’s not a requirement.

What if I miss out?

We receive more applications than we have places. 2019 is the third Werkhouse event and we plan to continue with more in the future. To stay informed of progress and future events, please join us on twitter @WerkhouseBRS or drop us an email.
